How presses are counted
Each key press counts once. Holding the key makes your operating system send auto-repeat signals, which are ignored, so only real press-and-release strokes are recorded. During the test the spacebar is blocked from scrolling the page or pressing buttons.
Presses per second is your total divided by the time, and your fastest second is the one-second window in which you pressed the most.
When it is useful
- Checking that a new keyboard registers every spacebar press
- Making sure nothing binds after changing switches or stabilizers
- Warming up before games that need fast tapping
Light presses that let go just before the key bottoms out are usually faster and easier on your hand than hammering it.
